Helping Culture Flourish in Thornhill: Performing Arts York Region receives Federal Funding
Minister of Heritage, the Hon. James Moore and Minister of State and MP Thornhill, Peter Kent are happy to announce that Performing Arts York Region (PAYR) will be receiving funding for its annual professional concert series of classical music primarily focused on Canadian artists.
For its 2010-2011 season, the series will be comprised of six concerts presented at the Thornhill Presbyterian Church between April 2010 and March 2011. The performances will include local, national and international emerging and established artists. Proposed artists to be featured include the Trio Accord (BC), Cary Savage, Guitarist (AB), Quartetto Gelato (ON) and Nelson Lee of the Jupiter String Quartet, violin, Rebecca Gitter, viola and Denise Djokic, cello (US/Canada).
The range of music presented is traditional and contemporary classical music. In addition, outreach events will be held in local seniors' homes and in hospitals.
