In a shocking statement, Ignatieff spokesman M.P. Borys Wrzesnewskyj today attacked Immigration Minister Jason Kenney for attending the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the notorious Nazi death camp.
Minister Kenney is in Poland this week to represent Canada at the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the camp where Adolf Hitler’s regime systematically murdered over one million Jews, Poles and other ethnic groups. Incredibly, Wrzesnewskyj criticized the Minister’s trip to mark this sombre occasion as a ‘jaunt’. He suggested that Canada should not be represented.
This is not the first example of Wrzesnewskyj making inflammatory comments that offend the Jewish community and Canadians in general. As the Liberal Party’s Associate Foreign Affairs Critic, Wrzesnewskyj travelled to Lebanon in the summer of 2006. He was asked if he was in favour of Hezbollah being taken off the terror list. His answer: “Yes, I would be.” (National Post, August 21, 2006).
Hezbollah is an international terrorist organization bent on the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s leader, does not hide his genocidal views towards the Jewish people. According to Nasrallah, “If Jews all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.” (New York Times, May 23, 2004). Nasrallah has even publicly claimed, "Jews invented the legend of the Holocaust." (Newsweek, November 20, 2006)
Canadians should be deeply disheartened that the Ignatieff Liberals feel it is appropriate to attack the Government for properly commemorating the Holocaust and honouring its millions of victims.
