VAUGHAN, ON – The City of Vaughan has one of the top two performing economies in Canada, according to a recent Conference Board of Canada report. The study, which assesses the attractiveness of Canadian cities to skilled workers and mobile populations, ranks Vaughan with Calgary and Edmonton as the only three cities to earn an “A” grade for a strong economy.
“This national report reinforces the fact that Vaughan is one of the best cities for business, not only in the Greater Golden Horseshoe, but across Canada,” said Mayor Linda Jackson. “Every day, more and more companies are choosing to call Vaughan their home, expanding our diverse local economy and creating new employment opportunities for our residents.”
Titled City Magnets II: Benchmarking the Attractiveness of 50 Canadian Cities, the report analyzed more than 40 factors in seven categories (Society, Health, Economy, Environment, Education, Innovation and Housing) to determine what makes a city attractive to new residents. The economic ranking was based on data from 2006; however, the report notes that the three A-rated cities will likely recover quicker than other municipalities from the economic downturn.
“Clearly, we have a lot to offer the business community,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “We are centrally-located within the Greater Toronto Area and we have one of the lowest tax rates for businesses. This not only attracts new businesses, but supports the expansion of existing businesses, all of which works to ensure our long-term economic prosperity.”
