Celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary
Peter Kent, MP announces launch of Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program
Dear Constituent:
THORNHILL - “On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, I am pleased to announce the new Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, which will provide significant support for existing community and cultural infrastructure in our riding and across the country as a way to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation”.
The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides funding for the rehabilitation, renovation and expansion of existing community infrastructure assets that are non-commercial in nature.
The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) is delivering the program in southern Ontario with an allocation of $44.4 million over two years.
“This is a great opportunity for eligible organisations in Thornhill to preserve and improve treasured cultural and community locations - investing in infrastructure will allow our families to enjoy moments of sport, recreation and leisure in the preserved facilities.”
The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides $150 million nationally over two years to support the rehabilitation, renovation and expansion of existing community infrastructure.
Examples of eligible projects under the program include:
- expansions such as new entrances and ramps to improve accessibility to a facility;
- replacing windows and doors in a community centre to improve energy efficiency;
- upgrading heating, cooling or electrical systems to meet safety standards;
- adding a roof or lighting to an outdoor rink; and
- extending a trail or bike path by no more than 50 percent of its existing length.
