Funding supports projects to reduce social isolation, share knowledge and celebrate
September 16 – Thornhill, Ontario -- The Hon. Kent, Member of Parliament for Thornhill, is encouraging local organizations to propose projects that are led or inspired by seniors and present an innovative and creative approach to address community concerns.
The Call for Proposals is open from September 9, 2020 to October 20, 2020.
Organizations are invited to apply for funding, under the following five National Priorities:
- Supporting healthy ageing
- Preventing elder abuse and fraud
- Combatting ageism, celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion
- Improving seniors’ access to government services and benefits
- Adapting community-based organizations to a more virtual environment
Eligible organizations can receive up to $25,000 in project funding under the Community Based regular grant. Or, up to $5,000 in project funding under the Community Based small grant.
In a message to his constituents, Mr. Kent stated:
“The New Horizons for Seniors Program has provided resources for local groups to plan programs for seniors. I am impressed by the contributions made by seniors to the Thornhill community through more than 100 initiatives since 2011.
The COVID 19 pandemic has restrained activities of our most vulnerable seniors, as such, I encourage community-based leaders to explore ways of adapting programs to support their social inclusion.”
Since 2004, the Canadian Government has funded more than twenty thousand NHSP projects in communities across Canada.
