Peter Kent, MP announces new jobs for youth in Thornhill
THORNHILL - “On behalf of the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, I am pleased to announce that over $480,000 in Canada Summer Jobs funding has been approved for 74 businesses and organisations in the Thornhill Riding,” Peter Kent, MP for Thornhill stated
The annual Canada Summer Jobs funding helps students gain the skills and experience needed to succeed, now and into the future, while earning money for the upcoming school year.
“This funding will create 175 jobs for Thornhill students while helping you to address skills shortages,” Mr. Kent added.
Canada Summer Jobs initiative is part of the Government of Canada`s Youth Employment Strategy which is yet another excellent example of how our government is creating jobs and economic growth.
Over the past five years, Canada Summer Jobs has supported Thornhill businesses and organisations with $2.4M in funding for youth jobs and internships.
Since 2006-2007, across Canada, the Youth Employment Strategy has helped more than 611,000 young people develop skills, to the benefit of the Canadian economy.
“As your Member of Parliament, I encourage you to seize the opportunity to help Thornhill youth gain the skills and experiences to boost your business by responding to the Annual Call for Applications. Usually issued in December each year,” Kent said.
