In response to the worst global recession in half a century, Prime Minister Harper’s Government swiftly implemented Canada’s Economic Action Plan; to protect Canadian families across the country, to create jobs by building infrastructure, and to build the economy of tomorrow by making strategic investments.
The Auditor General recently confirmed the successs of this endeavour, reporting that our Government acted quickly and effectively in the design and implementation of the Economic Action Plan.
In fact since July 2009, Canada’s Economic Action Plan has helped create nearly 430,000 new jobs. The IMF and the OECD predict that Canada will be a world leader on economic recovery and growth this year and next.
Here at home, Peter has worked effectively to deliver Thornhill its fair share of stimulus money. At a time of critical need, Peter worked closely with his Cabinet colleagues in Ottawa and delivered for Thornhill.
Everywhere in Thornhill, our neighbours and friends are benefitting from Peter’s strong representation.
·$2 million for the expansion of the Thornhill Community Centre and Library
·$750,000 for the Dufferin Street Resurfacing
·Funding for energy retrofits and green initiatives at Thornlea Poll, Thornhill Community Centre and Markham Civic Centre
·$83,334 for the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre Ice Rink Retrofit
·$133,334 for the Bathurst Clark Library Retrofit

Along with these projects, Peter has brought dozens of road and park restoration projects to Thornhill to help keep our community beautiful while creating jobs.
Take Steeles Avenue for example. After years of broken promises by politicians at all levels, it was Peter who brought the renovation of Steeles to the table and secured the funds needed to see the project through. Peter is getting things done for Thornhill families and businesses.
