As Thornhillers should be well aware, York Region Public Health officials, along with other public health agencies across the GTA, is working closely with hospitals and community health care providers to keep them informed on the evolving situation and to ensure reporting and management of any individuals under investigation/care for the evolving COVID-19 situation.
There are, at the time of this writing, currently 197 positive and unconfirmed cases of COVID-19 in York Region. All cases involved travellers.
Individuals who have tested positive have been quickly assessed and isolated. York Region Public Health is following up on all close contacts of these individuals.
There is NO EVIDENCE, at the moment, of community spread within York Region. We are advised the risk to York Region residents of acquiring the virus in the community remains low.
That said, Members of Parliament, because of our travels and gatherings in various Parliamentary settings, are considered potential “Super Spreaders”. Thus, we are advised to limit our attendance at large group events or close contact with vulnerable individuals.
For those reasons, as well as for the safety of my Hill office and Thornhill Constituency Office staff, we will operate those offices on a reduced basis for the immediate future.
We will maintain availability by telephone (905-886-9911) and email (firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com) and will endeavor to respond on a timely base and to provide services required by constituents here in Thornhill or in locations abroad, should assistance be required.
Please follow the advice and updates from York Region, Ontario and Canadian Health authorities. Canadians are fortunate to have superb health agencies and services and we will, with the prudent cooperation of all citizens, residents and visitors, get through this difficult period.
