Conservatives deeply concerned over Government sponsorship of anti-Semitic conference

August 9, 2016
OTTAWA, ON  Official Opposition Foreign Affairs Critic the Honourable Peter Kent issued the following statement in response to the Government of Canada’s sponsorship of the World Social Forum, a platform that is being used to promote anti-Semitism.

“We are deeply concerned by this Liberal Government’s decision to waste Canadians’ hard-earned tax dollars in a conference that promotes hate speech and intolerance.

“While the Government of Canada logo from the conference programming has been removed since this unacceptable sponsorship came to light, we urge the Liberals to launch an investigation to determine who authorized the inappropriate deployment of public funds.

“As the authors of the motion to condemn the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment (BDS) Movement that promotes the demonization and delegitimatization of the state of Israel, we as Conservatives are proud of the strong leadership we have shown on this issue. Unfortunately, many Liberal MPs either voted against or abstained from voting on our motion.

“Conservatives remain committed to condemning any and all attempts by Canadian organizations, groups or individuals to promote anti-Semitism both here at home and abroad.”
