On International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2019, we focus on the 74th anniversary of the Allied liberation of the notorious Nazi death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, on January 27, 1945.
The world was shaken by the unspeakable horrors revealed. Citizens and governments around the world responded, vowing, "Never Again".
But, in recent years there's been a resurgence of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, despite the creation of inspirational architectural tributes around the world, like Canada's National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa.
Which is why it's important that #WeRemember each year to ensure that future generations will remember the commitment, Never Again.
I paid a visit to our National Monument this morning to honour the memory of the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazi genocidal policies.
Thanks to the National Capital Commission for managing to keep access paths into the site cleared in this week of heavy accumulating snow.
