FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Erin O'Toole, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Peter Kent, Member of Parliament for Thornhill, and Marty Morantz, Member of Parliament for Charleswood—St. James—Assiniboia—Headingley, released the following statement regarding Justin Trudeau’s anti-Israel vote at the United Nations:
“Today, Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government once again voted to support an anti-Israel motion at the United Nations. This vote proves that the Trudeau government is willing to trade Canada’s support of an ally in return for votes for a flagging bid for a temporary United Nations Security Council seat.
“Since 2005, Canada has stood on principle against the annual anti-Israel motions at the United Nations because they set back serious dialogue towards peace. Canada’s Conservatives have been proud to stand with the state of Israel against these divisive motions at the UN.
“The Trudeau Liberals have placed their political agenda ahead of standing up for an ally. By voting in favour of this motion sponsored by North Korea and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Canada is stepping away from principle in the hopes of currying favour for a few votes.
“This vote by the Trudeau Liberals is a betrayal of our ally and partner and a sad admission that the Liberals will do anything to shore up their failing security council bid. Canada’s Conservatives will continue to stand with on principle with our friends and allies like Israel.”
